Cars filled with perplexed tourists, and commercial vehicles pull over to watch and to make room for the determined racers. The first race was in 2003 and it is destined to be one of the greats. The route has some good downhills, flats and long slow uphill energy sappers which are able to test the largest lungs! The event’s inaugural race was won by the Arusha cycling club team, with a time just over 3½ hrs. As the road biking race calendar is just starting to take shape, this race is in a pivotal position to attract cyclists from Kenya and will soon form the central day in a 3 day cycle race from Nairobi. |

The race has four sections, Men's Adult race, Junior race & Women's race. There is also a section for locally made traditional steel framed 'phoenix' bikes. This attracts a huge number of determined, and astonishingly fast local competitors. With a majority of Tanzanian cyclists taking part, it is a pleasure to see the sport develop. Join us for the next race on September 4th 2004 |
